Why Loose Leaf Tea Why Loose Leaf Tea
One of the questions we are often asked is why our tea comes loose leaf instead of in tea bags.
While tea bags do offer convenience there are a number of benefits to using loose leaf tea instead of bags:
Higher quality
- Herbs for tea bags have to be cut down significantly resulting in nutrient loss
- Tea bags are often made from second quality herbs
- The majority of tea bags on the market have artificial oils and flavorings added to make up for the herbs being altered
- Herbs need to be able to swell and float when the water is added- tea bags don’t allow this to happen
Better for the environment
- No extra waste from tea bags
- Many tea bags are sealed closed with chemicals and bleached
- Birds and the Bees sources ethically harvested, sustainable and organic ingredients. While some bagged teas also do- most do not
- Loose leaf can be composted after it has been brewed. Tea bags need to go in the trash because of the chemicals and staples used to make the bag
Higher Nutrition
- Using the whole herb imparts higher nutrients
- Herbs from loose leaf tea are not exposed to as much air which helps them retain more nutrients for a longer period of time
- Loose leaf allows you to see exactly what is in your tea
More Tea
- Tea bags are way too small to get the proper amount of tea into
- Loose leaf allows you to control exactly how much tea you want
- Loose leaf tea can be rebrewed at least twice and sometimes up to 5 or 6 times!
Sensory Experience
- Loose leaf tea is beautiful to look at
- Most bagged teas lack aroma- loose leaf tea smells beautiful from the moment you open your container
- For people who are tactile they can even hold and experience the tea with their hands
- The process of brewing loose leaf tea is often described as peaceful and soothing
Better Flavor
-
All of the above factors result in a much more flavorful tea. Many people are shocked at the flavor difference when they switch to loose leaf tea!
Cheaper
-
The initial cost of loose leaf tea may seem higher but compared to overall servings and ounces it’s typically about half the price
We hope this gives you a better understanding of why we have chosen to provide you with the highest quality tea. Let us know if you have any other questions at info@birdsandbeesteas.com
