One question we are often asked is how to brew our loose leaf tea.  Many people seem intimidated by the fact that we use loose leaf tea (more of why we use loose leaf here.  Fortunately, brewing the perfect cup is easy and there are many options to fit your lifestyle!

Cloth Tea Bags

This method is most similar to pre-filled tea bags.  Our tins all come with a muslin tea bag and more can be purchased here

*  Place 1-2 Tablespoon of tea in the bag w/ boiling water
* Steep in mug for 5-15 minutes (or more for a stronger infusion)
* Empty the spent herbs into the compost
* Rinse or toss into washing machine on delicate cycle (most people turn them inside out and rinse)

Tip- It’s nice to have 14 bags to prefill on Sunday night and use for your morning and evening cup of tea during the week.

French Press

Yep, the same kind of french press used for coffee!  Check out what we have available.

* Place 1 Tablespoon of tea to 1 Cup boiling water in french press
* Steep 5-15 minutes (longer for a stronger infusion)
* Depress plunger and pour tea
* Empty spent herbs into the compost and rinse out french press for the next use (many are dishwasher safe)!

Tip– For summer make a concentrated version with 3 Tablespoons tea to 1 Cup water.  Steep for a few hours and strain into ice cube trays.  Use the tea ice cubes in your water for the day!

Tea Strainer/ Basket

These can be used to infuse tea directly in the teapot or mug.  We have many options available.

* Place 1 Tablespoon tea to 1 Cup boiling water in strainer or basket
* Hang the strainer or basket in the tea kettle with boiling water or in mug
* Steep for 5-15 minutes (longer for a stronger infusion)
* Carefully remove strainer or basket
* Compost spent herbs and rinse clean (most are dishwasher safe)

Tip- Cover your tea kettle or mug while brewing to avoid losing any volatile oils during the infusion process.  You’ll notice a big difference in flavor!

Infuser Mug/ Bottle

These are perfect for busy mornings and on-the-go as they brew directly in the mug.  Plus they’re beautiful!  Check them out!

* Place 1 Tablespoon tea to 1 Cup boiling water in the mug
* Pour boiling water over the top
* Attach strainer portion of vessel and lid
* Enjoy your tea all day!
* Refill when out of water or compost spent herbs and wash

Tip- These will keep beverages hot for hours but also work great with cold beverages, keeping them cool all day!
